25 weeks

Another week down, more news to share.  We're even closer to closing on the house, it's set for this Thursday, 1/31.  Yip-EEE. I don't have to tell y'all again how excited I am to getting in there and putting my touch on it!  I also got to see a few of my girlfriends this past week & weekend that I haven't seen in a while, and they shared the sweetest thing with me - how much they like to read this blog & how they follow it weekly.  Thank you girls!  I love hearing this and it makes it seem so much more worth it to me to keep this updated.
So after a busy week - seeing lots of friends & having a great time, we ended it with a tour of the hospital where I'll deliver little miss Ava, Baptist South.  The birthing suites were so nice, the hospital is beautiful, and we felt really good about how they run things there.  Now it's time to get a pediatrician lined up, as well as a nanny!  I'm going to have to have a meeting w/my manager & boss at work to figure out what kind of schedule I'll be on when I return to work.  I mean, Ava's due in 3 months.  Things probably need to be worked out - and that right there overwhelms me & makes me anxious.  I won't worry about that, I think we'll be meeting about it next month.  Mommies out there that went back to work after your leave - did you go full time? Part time? Nanny? Day care? Parents?  My mom can only watch her 2 days a week, b/c I don't want to overwhelm her w/a newborn, especially since she helps out with my grandmother a lot.  (Oh, and my mom still gets migraines sometimes, too. Poor thing!)   One silver lining is that Don doesn't always have full days at work, so we'll just be needing a part time nanny, nothing full time, and he can either pick her up @ mom's, or let the nanny go home.  It's just a matter of lining things up.  Oh the joy!!  ;)

Here we go - week 25's recap!

24 weeks & some more big news!

Hey hey hey, kittens! Hope everyone has had a great week, and are enjoying their Sunday! It's gorgeous here, which is nice after a cold, windy past few days in ol' J-ville.  We got a new head coach for our Jags, yippee, and he seems pretty excited!  Let's see how this team can get turned around - new players,  too, please!!  But let's not forget the Superbowl - is anyone else as excited to see Beyonce perform the halftime show - AND Destiny's Child?!?  OMG I am so super excited.  Yes, I am a fan.  A huge fan of Bon-cey & the girls, so it can't happen soon enough.  (hint hint, anyone want to get me the new Destiny's Child album as a baby shower gift, I'll totally put it on the registry!  Just kidding --- or am I?)
So this week was full of fun - our first full 5 day work week after the holidays and then our computer system @ work going ka-put, so that was nice.  Back to the routine, yay.  I'm actually very excited about that, that's legit.  I now can remember what day it is, rather than thinking it was a Thursday when it was a Monday.  (yes, that messed up) But the best part of it was that I experienced my first official pregnant meltdown!  It resulted in tears that resembled that of a leaky faucet - a slow, steady stream of water flowing down my cheeks.  My mascara was a little upset, I assure you.  For those of you that know me, when asked how often I shed tears, you probably can count them on half a finger. I don't do it.  I just don't.  Every once in a while a movie will get me - like that movie 8 Below w/Paul Walker and all those doggies, oh and Sea Biscuit when he's winning his big race, all the while they're playing that old Southern Baptist hymn, "Oh Happy Day."  Those movies got me.  (laugh if you want!) So these tears just wouldn't stop rollin'!  Why was I even crying? What set me off?  Well, the house situation.  We are so close to closing on this house, but there were a few things that needed to be done (per the appraisal) either prior to closing, or after closing.  If we did them after, we have to set up an escrow account for more than the repairs quoted, and bring that to the table. My issue was I didn't think it necessary to pressure wash a home that I didn't own, or to clear branches & vines from the roof, when the seller could've done it himself, as normal/routine upkeep.  So after voicing that to my loan officer, as well as my realtor (who thankfully agreed), I got a quote for the siding that needed repaired.  My husband also got one, and I was just getting overwhelmed having to decide and who to go with.  My problem is that I wasn't giving it over to my husband to handle, which I should've done in the beginning.  So I did - I told him that I needed him to handle it b/c I just can't take it on, working full time, carrying a child, needing quality time w/him, living in a studio apt no bigger than a hotel room, thinking of Coco not having a yard, getting tense b/c we don't have our space yet, wanting to decorate a baby room, wanting to enjoy the happiness of my pregnancy.... etc etc etc.  It all kinda sprung on me also, b/c I've been a little sarcastic to him w/some comments, and he doesn't deserve it.  I said one that same night, totally not meaning it, and he took it that way - and didn't hesitate to tell me.  So that was the start - pointing out to me that my stress is coming out & I'm taking it out on him.  While I appreciated it (after the fact), it just set the meltdown off so nicely.  No yelling, just me retreating to the upstairs part of mom's house, sitting in the dark & crying.  Mom came home later and helped me out, and I later went on to bed, not saying much.  The next day, the husband came to the rescue - he called both contractors, picked one, spoke to the loan officer, realtor and set a date for when the repairs will be done (before we close).  We got a call while wandering around Target Friday night (our date...) from the loan officer, saying that we're going to get the [final] approval either this weekend, or early this coming week - and we can close!  Yay yay yay!!  What a relief!  If all of this can happen, we can get the repairs done next week, close, paint & remove the popcorn from the ceiling - maybe we'll have a house by Valentine's Day!!  Things will eventually work out... we're just so ready for them to!  We haven't even emptied our patience tanks, not even halfway there, but darn it if we're not getting close.  I am so excited to get in that baby room & start painting, decorating and just sitting in it, waiting for my little Ava to be here.  While Coco is out in her new backyard.  And Don is in his garage tinkering with something.    All in all, the week ended pretty nicely, so thank you goodness! (And more importantly, thank you Lord.)

Insert the 24 week update, at the start of week 25.  I still haven't decided if I wanted to do these at the end of each week, as a recap, or at the start of the week.  I like the idea of it at the end of the week, b/c it seems to make sense of what all I go thru for that week.  So I'll keep it up for a few more weeks - if that's okay. ;)
And without further ado....

24 weeks - baby Ava is as long as an ear of corn - the sweetest! (of course!)
How far along: 24 weeks down!
Total weight gain/loss:  + 1.4lbs (as of Tues @ my 24 week checkup)
Maternity clothes?  oh all the time! I picked up this basic tee @ Target the other day - not bad.  Found the best skinny pants (in black) at Destination Maternity, the Secret Fit Belly 5 Pocket (even tho the front pockets are fake lol) pants, they're amazing.  I'm prob going to have to get the blue ones!  And I see a maternity bra in my near future - for the comfort.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Like a champ.  I tend to get sleepy as I'm on my way home from work, so weird.  I even went to sleep twice this week while just laying down w/Coco - pretty early!
Best moment this week: Finally, finally getting to feel Ava move from the outside of my belly.  My mom was rubbing my belly and she would start moving. She had her head on my stomach, and felt her kick.  Don took a go at it and Ava straight up kicked him in the ear!  It was so legit - he freaked out! So the secret: slowly rub my belly & then wait for her to move.  It was so awesome!
Miss anything? a nice glass of red wine
Movement?  She's not super active, unless provoked!  ;)  Oh, and sometimes after coffee.
Food cravings: chocolate - like after lunchtime.  oh how divine a kit kat sounds!!
Anything making you queasy or sick?  Not that I can think of specifically - other than bbq. (I know!! I hate saying it! Shame on me!)  Oh, and I over did it at my girlfriend's daughter's bday party yesterday - just too many different delicious things - didn't agree w/me mucho.
Gender: super girly girl!
Labor signs: nope
Symptoms: leg cramp - the nerves are killing me sometimes. But since I'm wearing flats more often, I'm good. Aww... no heels.
Belly button in or out? Still in!
Wedding rings on/off: on
Happy or moody? Generally happy - until that tearful meltdown.
Looking forward to: Closing on the house, so I can get in there & decorate her room!

I leave you with some scripture my mom shared with me this morning, Psalm 139.  It's such a beautiful passage, each verse containing such amazing words.  "...you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord." (v. 3-4) "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." (v 14)  I'm so glad she told me to read it, b/c it's a great reminder of how God knows us and created us, and will be with us everywhere.

23 weeks

Again, so sorry I'm late!  It's not the same posting when I don't have my wall to hang up my little board.  But I think I had mentioned previously that I wanted to do the weeks at the end of each week, not the start, so they kinda made more sense.   So here you go - week 23 at the end of the week!  (oh, I hope y'all get the reference... comment if you do!)

Finally... progress on the home!

out for spicy thai dinner this week w/friends -
check out that bump!
Well, hello there! I've got an update for y'all -- we finally got some news that we had been anticipating - the approval letter came in for the home purchase!  I got an email on Wed this week, and went ahead to schedule an inspection for the home.  I called a couple of people, and after picking one I felt good about, we scheduled it to be done Friday (yesterday).  I am so pleased to announce that other than some moisture-caused wood rot on a few parts of the siding (confirmed it wasn't termites/beetles), and needing to get the a/c flushed and/or looked at, the house is in great condition.  The roof is only about 5 years old, thank goodness.  All the plumbing looks ok, electric, etc.  We'll need to snake a drain in the guest bath, but that's not too bad.  Since it's a short sale, we are buying the home "as-is," which can be a little hairy.  But most of the issues are cosmetic, and the types that you would have to maintain anyway, as a home owner.  The appraisal can now be done next week, and if all goes smoothly, and underwriting doesn't take forever, we are hoping to close by the end of January!  We're so happy!  What's great is that all the cosmetic things we want to do immediately, like painting, removing that horrid popcorn from the ceilings & replacing the carpet in the other 2 bedrooms, we can do while we're still here at my mom's.  I guess that means we have to start getting some quotes... yippee. Let me try to contain my excitement here.
All in all, it was a good end to the week.  Now on to the next one!

22 weeks - Happy New Year!

A week into it, and we 3 have adjusted pretty well to life in the studio apartment that is my mom's lower level of her townhouse. It's different, but we are handling it like champs.  We won't know what to do with all the room in the new house!  Speaking of which, I got wind that we may not close until the END of January.  Yikes... So we got that going for us.  How funny is this - if I may be catty for a moment - the rental that we had  to be out of by 12/25, is still unoccupied.  We had to rush and get out or the owner would lose the sale, and it's still empty!  How do we know, you ask?  Well, we had to go out near that side of town yesterday, and did  little drive by.  Looks the same as we left it.  But you know, whatever. We're out and finished with that.  (Except for his realtor texting me asking questions that she could've asked him herself - hello we moved out!)  It's just all for the better, to finish our year out on a good foot.  And we are. God continues to bless us,  thank you goodness!  All will work out in the end.
I almost forgot - Christmas was this past week too!  Yes, Christmas!  Oh gosh, I'm sorry I've almost forgotten about that altogether.  It was such a different Christmas, with the moving, not doing my usual Christmas eve dinner party, and not exchanging gifts.  I got some gifts for my niece, sister-in-law, mom, bro & his girlfriend - just little things.  Don and I agreed not to get each other gifts, and that was weird.  I so wanted to go get something for him, but he made me promise I wouldn't.  We're going to get him a new vehicle this week, we'll be buying a new sofa & dining room table, so we don't need anything. . It just made it a little different.  When I got to work on Wednesday, and was asked how it went, I said, "it was a Tuesday."  I didn't mean to be flippant, but that's kinda how it was.  We did all get together over here at mom's house on Christmas eve, so that was fun, and it went well.  She thought it would be a good idea to get things for a local homeless shelter in lieu of gifts for everyone.  She sent out formal invitations to everyone, with a list from the shelter of needed items.  I love that idea, and it's surprising to compare what you may spend on gifts for someone, and then we you go get things from a list, and spend only a fraction of the cost, you feel like you can buy so much more.  My mom didn't want to stop shopping, so that was really fun.
Tomorrow is New Year's Eve!  That I almost forgot about, too.  Yikes!  What a way to end 2012, with a complete lack of awareness of time - oh wait, I'm pretty sure I already suffer from that anyway.  2013 will be a great year, with a new home (we hope!), a new baby, a new life! We are so excited to travel down this new path, to see what God will bless us with, and just to be together experiencing all that life will hand us.  Good or bad, we know that we can get through it.  Not alone - but with the help and by the grace of God! Team work makes the dream work!  ;)

How far along? 22 weeks
Total weight gain/loss? I've gained about 2 lbs - thanks to all the Christmas goodies!
Maternity clothes? yes, but having a hard time finding some skinny maternity jeans.  my search is not over.
Stretch marks? no
Sleep? it's been a little difficult, but that's just b/c I'm not on my bed.  I am tired a lot still.
Best moment this week?  Hearing my husband tell 2 strangers, "well, she's pregnant so...," both while at restaurants lol!  That and when he rubs my belly. I love seeing his eyes light up when he thinks of his daughter. aww!  Oh, and telling more people her name - just love it!
Miss anything? Not really
Movement? Every now & then - she likes to move after I eat - the spicier, the more active she is!
Food cravings?  Nothing out of the ordinary
Anything make you queasy or sick?  Onions - now cooked ones, too.  I've reached the heartburn/indigestion phase & I don't like it!  (esp when I'm trying to sleep...)
Have you started to show yet? Still a little high, but I'm filling out a little more it seems.
Gender?  Girl -- Ava Elizabeth
Labor signs?  no
Belly button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off?  on
